QCE: 2011 to now!

Queensland Cheer Elite was formed from the highly successful Q Cheer, a Brisbane-based university squad which was founded in 2007 with just 14 members. With a passion to reach a wider age of athletes, Queensland Cheer Elite was developed as an all-ages, All Star cheerleading club, offering an extensive cheer and dance program.

QCE was launched in January 2011 by Shannon Lester and Emma Vasudevsan (QCE Directors), with classes at Logan and Ascot, offering 5 cheerleading teams and 2 dance teams, totaling 60 athletes. This was the year we experienced winning our first National titles, with first place at AASCF Nationals for all three of our cheer teams entered, Open 3 Diamonds, Open 2 Sapphires and Senior 1 Rubies.

After a very successful 2011 and 2012 season, in January 2013, we moved into our own facility at Geebung on Brisbane’s Northside, increasing in size to offer 12 cheer teams and 4 dance teams.

In 2014, QCE expanded to a second facility on Brisbane's West, at Sumner Park, in addition to our gym at Geebung, and fielded 16 cheer teams. We also took our very first team of 15 athletes to NCA Nationals in Dallas in February 2014 - an amazing experience for our girls and coaches!

In 2015, we continued our growth, introducing recreational cheerleading in addition to our competitive cheerleading program. In the 2015 season, we offered 19 competitive cheer teams and 5 recreational cheer teams and enjoyed outstanding results from all levels and teams throughout the year. We also begin training several university teams from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

2016 started with our Northside gym moving into a much larger facility at Kedron, to accommodate our growth. To reach a wider range of athletes and families, in 2016, we also introduced a new stream of cheerleading, Semi-Competitive Cheer. This allowed athletes to compete whilst still only training once a week and was very successful in allowing more young people to explore and enjoy the benefits of cheerleading. We took our second NCA trip to NYC, LA and Dallas in February and then returned to the USA in April for our first ever Worlds team who travelled to compete against thousands of other international athletes at USASF Worlds held at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida.

2017 was another action-packed season for our gym, moving our Sumner program into a bigger facility to allow for more classes and equipment for our students. We were also excited to be awarded Australian Cheerleading Gym of the Year for 2017! We won another Worlds bid at AASCF Nationals 2016, so returned with our Diamonds girls to USASF Worlds in the USA in April of this year. We have since celebrated another successful season, seeing our athletes produce wonderful performances at competitions, as well as seeing an impressive increase in tumbling skills and execution this season, which has been the focus of our tumbling staff.

2018 brought with it many exciting opportunities, including travelling to the USA to attend the World's largest cheerleading competition, NCA Nationals, in February 2018 with our Junior 2 and Senior 4 teams. We had an absolutely ball, exploring LA, San Fran and Dallas with a huge group of 75 (a mix of parents and athletes).

2019 is our 10th season as a club - we can hardly believe it! Our focus for this season is developing an even stronger club culture through our 2019 club theme of “From The Heart”. We want our club to always be a place to belong and develop connections with our coaches and team mates and we are seeing this years theme ripple through the club through team gifts from their team’s Cheer Mums, through to the relationships forming throughout the club, through celebrating athlete’s achievements at the gym and on social media. We are gearing up for another Nationals in Melbourne in November - but before that, a variety of competitions in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast, club wide events and so much more.
